“Give us this day our daily bread”. I have read this line in the Lord’s Prayer many times. It wasn’t until this year that I truly grasp what the phrase “daily bread” meant for me.

One day it hit me like a ton of bricks. My daily bread simply meant everything I need for the day at hand, I have. It wasn’t meant to take care of tomorrow, next week, next month, or a year from now…but today.

I have not always recognized it in the past, but it was there. There were times I worried and became anxious because I didn’t recognize my daily bread. I figured I didn’t recognize it because it didn’t look like what I wanted it to look like, or because I was looking for more than “today’s supply”; but it was there.

Once I accepted this truth, I saw my needs for today differently. More importantly, I started to intentionally look for just my daily bread and I found it was enough each day.

Sometimes we stress ourselves out trying to get or make something happen when we want it to happen. Everything has its own timing and no matter how we try to manipulate that time, it will still happen when it is supposed to happen.

I  am now to the point where I am okay if things don’t pan out the way I wanted them to in a specific time frame ( especially after I have given my best and given all I have). If something I wanted today didn’t happen, it’s because I wanted but today didn’t need it…perhaps too many carbs (smile).
